Two Gulls Claim ECAC Honors After CCC Tournament Efforts

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Two Endicott seniors were recognized by Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for their efforts in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament this past week.  Senior’s Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) and Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) were both named Corvias ECAC Division III New England Players of the Week for their respected sport. Both received the honor after also collecting conference accolades yesterday.

Gold extended his hitting streak to 14 games dating back to April 9th with hits in five games this past week, as the Gulls went 5-0 and claimed the 2014 CCC Baseball Championship title. Gold hit .444 (8-for-18) throughout the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament, with seven RBIs, five runs scored, three doubles, two stolen bases, and one triple. In the 5-3 championship win over Western New England, Gold came up big for the Gulls as he recorded an RBI and scored a run. In the bottom of the fifth, with the game tied at 2-2, Gold singled through the right side to score teammate Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) to give the Gulls the lead. In that same inning, after a sacrifice fly out to center by Matthew Paola (Middlebury, Conn.) and another Endicott run scored by Brett Holmgren (Middleboro, Mass.), Gold stole second and then legged out two more bases for a run off of a single to right field by EJ Martinez to give the Blue and Green all of the runs they would need to claim the 2014 title. With the victory over Western New England in the CCC Baseball Championship Endicott has claimed an automatic bid into the upcoming NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

Murphy had a stellar two-game stretch this past week to help the Gulls earn the programs ninth-straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship title. The attacker led the Gulls with 14 total points (7 goals, 7 assists) on the week, while posting the game-winning assist as time expired in the CCC Championship game as Endicott earned a 14-13 victory over Roger Williams. The senior recorded four goals and four assist in the one-goal championship victory over the Hawks. In the CCC semifinals, the senior netted three goals and dished three assists in a 15-7 win over Gordon. With the triumph the Blue and Green earned an automatic berth into the upcoming NCAA DIII Women’s Lacrosse Tournament where they will travel to Middlebury for a Second Round matchup on Saturday. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
