Wellesley takes two from Endicott in non-conference doubleheader
WELLESLEY, Mass. â Looking to improve upon a six-game win-streak, the Endicott softball team suffered a setback against non-conference opponent Wellesley on Wednesday afternoon after dropping a pair of games to fall to 6-12 overall on the season. The Gulls lost in game 5-1 before getting shutout 8-0 (5 inn.) in game two.

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Looking to improve upon a six-game win-streak, the Endicott softball team suffered a setback against non-conference opponent Wellesley on Wednesday afternoon after dropping a pair of games to fall to 6-12 overall on the season. The Gulls lost in game 5-1 before getting shutout 8-0 (5 inn.) in game two.
Endicott plays another non-conference doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at home against Brandeis starting at 3:30 pm.
Game One: Endicott 1, Wellesley 5
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, freshman third baseman Sam DiBella (Danvers, Mass.) roped a RBI double to left center to score senior Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) to tie the game but Wellesley plated four runners in the bottom of the inning to win 5-1.
The Blue got a sacrifice fly from freshman Carly Bresee (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) to take the 2-1 lead but Abby Casey's three-run homerun to right field helped deliver the 5-1 win for Wellesley.
Endicott's Meg Donegan (Atkinson, N.H.) pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball before giving up the four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the loss. Junior Danielle LaRocque (Averill Park, N.Y.) finished the game by hurling 2 1/3 shutout innings and allowing just one hit.
Gulls sophomore outfielder Jess Linden (Stratford, Conn.) went 2-for-3 in the game with singles in the third and fifth innings.
Game Two: Endicott 0, Wellesley 8 (5 inn.)
Wellesley senior pitcher Sarah Schwartzmeyer (Elba, N.Y.) pitched five innings of no-hit ball, allowing just three runners to reach by walk, while striking out six in the win.
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Wellesley put up six runs on five hits and one Endicott error. The Blue got RBI hits from Bresee , Casey, Jayne Ellis (Mishawaka, Ind.), and Emilyrose Havrilla (Caldwell, N.J.) in the inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Emily Hoffman (Malden, Mass.), Sam Cila (Wakefield, Mass.), and Julia Marra (Litchfield, N.H.) all drew walks in the game to reach base.
Freshman pitcher Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) started and pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with no walks.
