Women's Lacrosse Raises Nearly $6,000 for Breast Cancer
SOUTH BOSTON, Mass.- With junior midfielder Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) leading the way, the entire Endicott College women’s lacrosse team participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in South Boston on October 20th. The race/walk raises money and awareness for breast cancer.
SOUTH BOSTON, Mass.- With junior midfielder Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) leading the way, the entire Endicott College women's lacrosse team participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in South Boston on October 20th. The race/walk raises money and awareness for breast cancer.
Murphy, whose mother Stacey is a breast cancer survivor, organized the team to fundraise in honor of her mother. Stacey Murphy will have been cancer free for 10 years this coming spring. The team raised an astounding $5,875.00 in Stacey's name. Each member of the team wore breast cancer awareness shirts that were made for the event, dressed in pink and walked the 5K course together.
Their outstanding efforts were recognized by the Susan G. Komen foundation and the team was rewarded with tents for the day of the event. Murphy, being the team leader, was awarded free Panera Bread Bagels for a year, two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the U.S., tickets to see The Script in concert and a signed t-shirt and hat from John Cena.
Since its start in 1982, the Susan G. Komen foundation has raised nearly $2 billion dollars for breast cancer research and awareness. Through these funds, the foundation has helped create awareness and outreach programs in over 50 countries. The Endicott College women's lacrosse team is honored to have raised nearly $6,000.00 for such an honorable cause.
