Endicott defeats Salem State 8-1 in final tune up before NCAA Tournament

SALEM, Mass. - The Endicott women's tennis team finished the spring portion of their schedule with a 4-1 overall record after Thursday's 8-1 victory over Salem State.  The Gulls are 18-3 heading into their NCAA DIII Tournament First Round match on May 10th.  Eighteen wins ties the program record set back in the 2008-09 season, Endicott's first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance season.

Endicott's opponent for their First Round match will be announced at a later date.  Last season, the Gulls drew Elizabethtown for their First Round opponent and took two out of three doubles matches before dropping the first four matches of singles play to take a 5-2 loss. 

In Thursday match against North Shore Cup rival Salem State, the Blue and Green cruised through doubles play with sophomore Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) shutting out their Viking opposition 8-0 in #2 doubles.  Junior Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) took the top doubles position 8-3 before the combination of freshmen Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) and Savannah Deady (Andover, Mass.) claimed an 8-2 win at the #3 doubles flight. 

In singles play, Endicott won five out of six matches in straight sets while their only loss came at the #4 position with senior Rachel Fenstermaker (Somerset, Mass.) falling in three sets.  Cloutier, Heacox, Egbert, and Newman all earned their second points of the match while freshman Sarah Hill (Topsham, Maine) took down her #6 singles opponent 6-1, 6-2.
