Women's Tennis sees NCAA Tournament run end with 5-0 loss to #5 Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Endicott women's tennis team advanced into the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history with a 5-0 victory over Bridgewater State on Friday, but the Gulls saw their tournament run end after a 5-0 loss to #5 Bowdoin on Saturday.

The Gulls end their 2012-13 campaign, which saw them capture their second straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship and their first under first-year head coach Jeremy Howard, come to a close with an overall record of 19-4.  The 19 wins are a program record.

Endicott loses senior captains Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) and Rachel Fenstermaker (Somerset, Mass.) to graduation but will return the majority of their starting lineup including five All-CCC players. 

Against one of the top teams in the nation, the Gulls struggled to gain an advantage with their closest match in doubles action being an 8-3 defeat in the #3 position by sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.). Endicott suffered losses at #1 (8-1) and #2 (8-0) doubles, respectively, as they headed into singles play down 3-0.

The Polar Bears stormed ahead in each singles match, winning the first set in each flight 6-0 needing just two singles victories to advance into the next round of the tournament.  Chantalle Lavertu (Lewiston, Maine) won 6-0, 6-0 over Endicott sophomore Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and Emma Chow (Toronto, Ontario) delivered the same fate to Pinciaro to end the match.
