SALEM, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team defeated Salem State University (SSU) by a 7-2 score on Thursday evening at the SSU Tennis Courts.
Endicott swept doubles behind wins at the No. 3 (8-2), No. 1 (8-3), and No. 2 (8-3) flights, respectively. The Gulls' doubles pairings were sisters Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) / Samantha Barmore (Southington, Conn.) at No. 3, Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) / Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) at No. 1, and Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) / Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) at No. 2.
Meanwhile, in singles action, Endicott took a 4-0 lead in the match via Lauren Rahr's (Waterford, Conn.) straight sets victory (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 and later clinched the match on Margot Andreasen's (Portland, Maine) 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 after the Vikings picked up a win at the No. 2 position (6-0, 6-0).
"That was a fun match with our neighbors that was highlighted by an epic three-setter at number one singles that went well past daylight," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "It wasn't quite Federer/Nadal Wimbledon 2008, but it was definitely a great match to be a part of."
