Colby-Sawyer Charges Past Endicott
Feb. 16, 2006
NEW LONDON, NH - Andrew St. Clair pumped in a game-high 20 points as Colby-Sawyer pulled away from Endicott in the second half of a 75-52 Charger win Thursday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
With the loss, the Gulls stand at 15-9 overall and 12-3 in the CCC North Division while Colby-Sawyer avenged an earlier loss to Endicott to improve to 14-9 overall. The Chargers are also 12-3 in the CCC North Division.
Endicott countered its ball control problems - 24 turnovers that led to 30 Colby-Sawyer points - by shooting 54 percent in the first half to stay in the game. The Chargers led 36-31 at the break but things unraveled quickly for the visitors, who turned the ball over 12 times and hit just one of their 10 three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes of play.
Senior co-captain Matt George (Dover, NH/Dover) canned a three for Endicott to open the second half with the Gulls trailing 36-34, but it would be as close as Endicott would get. Colby-Sawyer went on a 23-5 run over the next nine minutes and when the dust settled at the midway point of the half, the home team was ahead by 20 points, 59-39.
During the spurt Endicott turned the ball over eight times, missed nine field goals, including five three-pointers, and missed three of its four free throw attempts. Meanwhile, the Chargers were tenacious in extending the lead. They put up 19 shots in the 10-minute run, netting eight field goals, including three treys, and grabbed 14 rebounds, six of which were at the offensive end.
George led the Gulls with 16 points followed by junior forward Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro/Second Baptist School, TX), who scored 12 points (6-of-8 FG) and pulled down six rebounds. The two 1,000-point scorers were the only two EC players to reach double digits, but guards Zach Ellis (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) and Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) each put home eight points and junior forward Mike Sullivan (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) scored six points.
Matt Spanos scored 12 points off the bench for the Chargers, who got 24 points from their substitutes compared to Endicott's 10 points off the bench. Tyler Fornier and Duncan Szeliga each scored six points for Colby-Sawyer.
The Gulls will look to rebound in their regular season finale versus Roger Williams at home Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
