Jan. 6, 2007
PAXTON, MA - The Endicott College Gulls picked up a tough Commonwealth Coast Conference road victory on Saturday, as they were able to fly by the Amcats of Anna Maria, 70-55 in Paxton, Massachusetts.
Endicott and AMC exchanged blows early on in the first half, as the home team was led by the strong play of sophomore Joshua Wells (Cherry Valley, MA). Wells, a junior college transfer playing in his first NCAA collegiate game, recorded a game-high 22 points on nine of 15 shooting from the floor.
With just under seven minutes remaining in the opening frame, the Amcats found themselves leading Endicott by three. However the Gulls were able to rebound, as they opened up a 14-3 run to end the first half, sending them into the break with a 29-21 lead.
Endicott's Mike Sullivan (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) was a force in the second frame, as he scored 15 of his team-high 19 points in the final 20 minutes. The senior center led the visitors, as he shot a perfect 7-for-7 in the second half. Endicott had three players reach double figures Saturday afternoon, as Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) and Graham Whitelaw (Kennebunk, ME/Cheverus) scored 10 points and 11 points respectively.
Brandon Diaz (Hartford, CT/Northwest Catholic) was the floor general all afternoon for the Gulls. The sophomore guard put together an impressive effort, as his hustle and aggressive play lifted the Gulls in their first game back from the winter break.
With the win, Endicott remains unbeaten in the Commonwealth Coast Conference as they improve to 2-0 (3-6 overall). Endicott's next match-up is a non-conference game with the Bears of Bridgewater State College. BSC travels to Beverly, MA on Thursday with the tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
