Teixeira Earns Second Consecutive Player of the Week
October 25, 2011
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) has been honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as the field hockey Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second straight week that the junior goalkeeper has been tabbed for this honor after she helped Endicott to two more conference wins.
Teixeira, a junior co-captain, posted a 0.64 goals against average and stopped 10 shots in a 2-0 week for the Gulls. She made four saves in a 3-0 shutout of league rival Salve Regina and then made a week-high six stops in a 5-1 victory over Gordon College.
Over the last three games, Texeira held opponents scoreless for a streak of 218 minutes, dating back to a 59th minute goal in the October 13th loss at Bridgewater State. Since then she has shutout both UNE and Salve Regina and came less than three minutes away from keeping Gordon off of the score-sheet.
Texieira, who was also named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week last week, has started all 16 games for the Gulls in net and has made 112 saves while posting a 2.58 goals against average. She has amassed an 8-7 record and is a huge part of the success that the Endicott field hockey team has had in the second half of this season.
The Gulls have turned around a 1-7 start to now sit at the top of the CCC standings with a 7-1 conference record and an 8-8 overall mark. They will play two final conference games on the road, starting this evening at Western New England (7:00 pm) and finishing this Saturday with a 1:00 pm game at Nichols.
