#9 Bowdoin Surges Past Endicott Women's Lacrosse

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The ninth ranked program in the country, Bowdoin College defeated Endicott 14-8 on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse game. The Gulls, who were playing back to back games, fall to 7-5 on the season, while the Polar Bears improve to 7-2 with the victory.

Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.), Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.) and Lauren Todd (Newfields, N.H.) scored a pair of goals apiece for the Gulls, while a pair of seniors for Bowdoin made program history with their efforts.

Bowdoin senior Carolyn Gorajek (Highstown, N.J.) scored three goals and handed out an assist to become the program's all-time leader in points, while goaltender Tara Connolly (Simsbury, Conn.) stopped six shots netted her 40th career win to tie the school's career wins mark.

Junior Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) made 13 stops in net for Endicott and Davis had four draw controls, while Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) won three draws and grabbed two ground balls while also scoring a goal.

After Todd scored the game's opening goal at 27:32, Bowdoin rolled off four scores in a span of 3:10 to take a 4-1 lead on Smith's first marker of the afternoon. Endicott scored three of the next four goals to close within 5-4 on goal by Pratt with 14:32 remaining in the half. Sophomore Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) also scored for the Gulls during that stretch.

Bowdoin responded with a 4-1 run to close the period, including a goal from Emma Beecher (Morristown, N.J.) with 19 seconds left before halftime to take a 9-5 lead into the break.

Bowdoin extended its lead to 10-5 early in the second half before a 3-1 surge by Endicott brought the visitors within 11-8 following Davis' goal with 7:55 to go. However, Taylor Wilson (Chevy Chase, Md.) scored twice in the last five minutes as the Polar Bears closed the game on a three-goal run.

Gorajek added five ground balls and three caused turnovers for Bowdoin. Jordan Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J.) scored three goals as well for the Polar Bears while Mackenzie Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) and Wilson added two apiece.

Davis had two assists to go with her two tallies, while Todd also helped on one score for the visitors.

Bowdoin's Betsy Sachs (Glenside, Pa.) had five draws and three caused turnovers while Erica Nangeroni (Westwood, Mass.) added four caused turnovers for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin held a 32-14 edge in shots and forced 18 Endicott turnovers.

Endicott will return to action next Friday at home against Roger Williams at 4:00 p.m. in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday evening with a home contest against the University of Southern Maine at 7:00 p.m.
