Gulls Down Colonels 3-0 in CCC Volleyball Action

BEVERLY, Mass.-  The Endicott College women's volleyball team was able to defeat Curry three sets to none behind an outstanding team effort on the offensive end.  As a team, Endicott outhit Curry .413 to .050 while also picking an amazing 21 aces.  Curry now falls to 7-17 overall on the season and 0-8 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).  Endicott sees their record improve to 11-19 and 5-2 in CCC play. 

The Gulls honored their three seniors before the match in a brief ceremony.  Seniors Gillian Kucharski (Avon, Conn.), Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) and Falyn Torelli (Pelham, N.Y.) have been able to amass an overall record of 70-68 over their careers while going 30-5 in the CCC to this point.  All three were instrumental in the win against Curry this evening.  Norley was able to add seven digs to her team leading dig total while also serving up one ace on 12 serve attempts.  Torelli was able to go on a 12 point serving run in the first set that was highlighted by four aces.  That run saw a slim lead grow from three to 14 by the time she was finished.  Kucharski started in the back row and played outstanding defense as she was able to pick up four digs.

Endicott was led offensively by two freshmen and a junior as freshman middle Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) tallied nine kills on 13 error-free attempts for a sparkling .692 hitting percentage.  Fellow freshman Jackie Cone (Salem, N.H.) was right on Guerre's heels with eight kills as the natural outside showed off her versatility and was able to slide over to the middle in the third and final set.  Cone finished with a hitting percentage of .538.  Junior outside Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) was also error-free on the night as she picked up six kills on 15 attempts to hit .400 on the night.  As a team, Endicott had 38 kills and only seven hitting errors on 75 attempts for the night.

Curry showed grit and determination as they fought until the very end.  Freshman outside Brittany Lynch (Randolph, Mass.) was nearly unstoppable for the Colonels at the net as she was able to pick up five kills on 10 attempts with only one error for a .400 average.  Lynch also recorded three digs on the match.  Also playing well for Curry were senior Kendra LeMay (Chicopee, Mass.) and sophomore Tiana Sturtze (Worcester, Mass.).  The two middles each picked up four kills on the night and Sturtze also chipped in a solo block.  Setters Hannah Robinson (Cumberland, R.I.) and Michelle Theroux (Avon, Conn.) led their team well as the tough Endicott serving made serve receive tough for the Colonels.  Robinson finished the match with eight assists as Theroux was able to notch four of her own.

Tonight's match was the last of the season for the Colonels as the team showed great improvement in nearly doubling their win total from last season.  The Gulls travel to Western New England on Saturday for a pivotal CCC showdown.  WNE is currently standing in second place while Endicott is in fifth.  Game time is at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Springfield, Mass.
