Endicott Sweeps New England College
April 26, 2005
Henniker, NH -- The Gulls broke out for 19 hits and 19 runs against the Pilgrims in game one. They followed that up with 13 hits and 13 runs in game two.
Game one featured a break out performance by first baseman Todd Strong. He was 3-for-3 with three doubles and six RBIs. Mark Vaughan was 4-for-4 with a double that missed being a homerun by six inches. Dan Gomez also picked up three hits, four RBIs and his fourth homer of the year. Other multiple hitters included: Gavin Softic and Tom Warner with two each. Greg Allain earned his fourth victory of the year pitching a one-hitter with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Game two was tense until the fifth. With the Gulls up 1-0, starter and winner, Chris Serrano, got out of a 2nd inning, bases loaded, one-out jam with pop up and strike out. With the Gulls up 4-0 in the fourth, Chris allowed one run and left the bases loaded to stop a New England College rally that could have tied it up. Then a four-run fifth put Endicott back into the driver's seat. Serrano got his first win of season with six innings of work allowing one run on five hits. Leading the hit parade in game two was Tom Warner with three and four RBIs. Kevin Donahue, Adam Labbe and Joe Orlando each had two and Greg Allain hit his second home run of the year.
The victories move Endicott to 15-5 in the CCC and the second seed behind Curry for the tournament. The remaining seeds in the eight team field are as follows: \#3 Salve Regina (15-5), \# 4 Nichols (14-6), \#5 Eastern Nazarene (12-6-1), \#6 Colby Sawyer (11-9), \#7 Wentworth (8-12), \#8 Gordon (7-13). The tournament is composed of two four-team brackets that will play double elimination until there is a champion from each bracket. The two bracket champions will play one game for the CCC title and the chance to play in the NCAA regional tournament.
Endicott, by being the \#2 seed, will play home games through out the tournament until the championship game, in which case it will have to travel to Curry if the seeding holds true. Endicott's bracket includes \#3 Salve, \#6 Colby Sawyer and \#7 Wentworth.
The tournament starts on Wednesday with Endicott hosting \#7 Wentworth at 6:00pm. The other games are: \#1 Curry vs. \#8 Gordon at 3:00, \#3 Salve Regina vs \#6 Colby Sawyer at 7:30pm, and \#4 Nichols vs. \#5 Eastern Nazarene at 3:00pm.
