Gulls sweep Framingham State in Florida; improve to 5-3 overall

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Endicott baseball team rebounded from a difficult loss to Rhode Island College by sweeping Framingham State in a doubleheader at the RussMatt Florida Invitational. The Blue and Green are now 5-3 heading into their final day of competition, a two-game set against Amherst College.
Game One – Endicott 8, Framingham State 5

Junior pitcher Benjamin Petrides (Belchertown, Mass.) earned the victory against the Rams, going 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts, and freshman first baseman Jake Northrup (Boxborough, Mass.) knocked a two-RBI double and a solo homerun to lead the Gulls offensively.
The Blue and Green jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first with five runs on five hits. Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) drove in Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) with an RBI single. Northrup cracked his two-RBI double, then outfielder Mike Russo (Natick, Mass.) had an RBI single before freshman Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) stole home on a first and third situation to cap off the first inning scoring.
Framingham State got two runs back on a homerun and an RBI single, but the Gulls responded in the bottom half of the second inning with a run scoring double by Lemke.
Down 6-2, Framingham State scored twice in the third inning on a two-run bomb to cut the Endicott lead down to 6-4. Endicott got those runs right back on Northrup’s homerun and a RBI groundout by Joe Klein (Monroe, Conn.) to go up 8-4.
The two squads exchanged back-to-back scoreless innings before another RBI by the Rams produced the game’s final run.
The Gulls closed out the game both Tyler Hill (Plymouth, N.H.) and Northrup pitching 2/3 of an inning without surrendering a run. Northrup earned the save.
Game Two – Endicott 10, Framingham State 3

Six different Endicott batters recorded RBIs with Jake Northrup turning in another productive day at the plate going 2-for-4 with four RBI to once again lead the Gulls.
Freshman pitcher Steven Carter (Brunswick, Maine) hurled a complete game, earning the win by allowed just two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three.
Endicott did much of their damage in the third inning that saw the Gulls score eight runs on six hits and two Framingham State errors.
Danny Mello, Eric Lemke, Tad Gold, Joe Klein and Robbie Goldstick (Deerfield, Ill.) all drove in runs in the win. Mello, Lemke, Gold, and Colin Sitarz (West Hartford, Conn.) also recorded stolen bases against Rams pitching.
