Baseball sweeps Curry, improves to 10-6 overall

Beverly, Mass. – Tyler Hitchcock’s (Abington, Mass.) complete game lifted host Endicott to a 5-2 win over Curry in game one before a 13-4 victory in game two completed the sweep in Sunday afternoon The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) baseball action at North Athletic Field.

Hitchcock went seven innings, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out five to improve to 2-0 on the year. Endicott trailed early but used a three-run third inning to take the lead for good.
Sean Jackman’s (Stoughton, Mass.) two-out single scored Carlos Cornejo (Lake Forest, Calif.), who doubled down the left field line to get into scoring position, to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. One inning later, Matt Rodriguez (Quincy, Mass.) scored on an RBI single to left field from Cornejo to make it 2-0.
The Gulls responded in the bottom half of the third with a two-out rally of their own. With Robbie Goldstick (Deerfield, Ill.) on third base, Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) singled to left field to cut the deficit to one. Jake Northrup (Boxborough, Mass.) stepped up and blasted a two-run home run to give Endicott a one run lead – a lead it would not relinquish.
Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) added an RBI double in the top of fourth before Colin Sitarz (West Hartford, Conn.) hit a solo home run in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Hitchcock blanked the Colonels over the final four innings for the win. Curry’s Kyle Connors (Stoughton, Mass.) took the loss despite fanning seven batters.
Northrup finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs while Cornejo led the visitors with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored in the setback.

Lemke and Sitarz each homered and drove in four runs in the win. Freshman Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) chipped in two RBIs and a pair of runs.
Curry’s Brad Hawn (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Matt Rodriguez (Quincy, Mass.) both drove in two runs in the loss.
Junior pitcher Mike Nich (Orange, Conn.) allowed three runs in five innings of work while striking out three to improve to 3-1 on the year. Alex Sammons (Irvine, Calif.) was forced to take the loss after the Gulls got to him early.
Chris Dominguez (Braintree, Mass.) opened the fifth with a double to center field before Lemke’s big fly scored them both and made it 7-3. Freshman Nick Roberts (Lynnfield, Mass.) singled down the left field line to score Gold from third and add to the advantage. Mello capped the scoring with an RBI double to deep left-center.
The hosts tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth before Curry got one back in the seventh. Brendan Pittsley (Plympton, Mass.) threw two innings of relief for Endicott, striking out one and allowing one run.
The Gulls take a day off before they host Worcester State for a non-conference matchup at 3:30 pm. Curry returns to the diamond on Wednesday (March 30) when it welcomes Eastern Nazarene to Milton at 2:00 pm.
