BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 3/4 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team received a complete game effort from Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) and a 13-run effort from the offense to down second-seeded Nichols, 13-3, in Thursday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinal matchup at North Field.
WP (9-0): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 9 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
LP (2-3): Allen Hinckley (Windsor Locks, Conn.) — 1.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Despite the Bison scoring two runs in the first inning, it was all Gulls the rest of the way. The Blue and Green posted five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead, and would not relinquish it from there.
AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) kicked off the scoring with a sac fly to left, and then Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) followed up with a single to right center to tie things at two. TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) then doubled down the left field line to score two, and Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) capped things off in the frame with an RBI groundout.
The Gulls added another with a Stephenson solo blast to right in the fifth, clearing the right field fence by plenty to put the hosts up 6-2.
They tacked on two more in the sixth and five more in the eighth to bury the Bison by a 13-3 score. Wladkowski, Stephenson, Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.), Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.), John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.), and Hamm all picked up RBI base knocks, while Brenden Walsh (Reading, Mass.) worked an RBI walk.
Scully pitched his second complete game of the season (first full 9-inning complete game), as he dazzled his way through the Nichols lineup. Between the end of the first and middle of the sixth innings, he retired 15 of the 16 batters that he faced.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott holds a 44-10 lead in the all-time series. They have taken seven straight matchups in the series.
- Scully's nine-inning complete-game effort is the first for Endicott since Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship last year on May 11, 2024.
- MacDougall swiped second base in the second inning, his 40th theft of the season. He ranks fourth nationally and first in the CNE by a longshot.
- Stephenson's three-hit day was his sixth of the season.
- Scully used just 92 pitches to shut down the Bison.
