Jarvie, Gulls Pitching Staff Two-Hit UMass Dartmouth; No. 22 Gulls Win 9-1
BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 22 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated UMass Dartmouth, 9-1, in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference matchup from North Field.
WP (3-0): Max Jarvie (Wilton, Conn.) — 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
LP (2-1): Aidan Newhall (Walpole, Mass.) — 2.2 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
The Gulls' pitching staff continued its dominant stretch, spearheaded by Jarvie's impressive six-inning start.
Offensively, Endicott scored its first run of the day in the bottom of the second inning. Brenden Walsh (Reading, Mass.) laid down a perfectly placed bunt for a single, and then stole second base and third base. On his steal of third, the Corsairs' catcher soared a throw over the head of the third baseman, allowing Walsh to trot home with ease.
Then, in the third inning, the Gulls put up a six spot. Cade Bernardo (Glenmont, N.Y.) kicked off the rally with a single up the middle, and later came around to score on Finn Adams' (Stratham, N.H.) fielder's choice RBI.
Adam Regan (Braintree, Mass.) and TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) both later delivered two-run singles to highlight the offensive action in the third.
The Blue and Green added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to Walsh's two-run single to center, which made it 9-0.
UMass Dartmouth scratched across its first run of the day in the top of the seventh, but a scoreless eighth and ninth frames of work from Colby Correia (Fairhaven, Mass.) locked up the 9-1 victory for the Gulls.
