Caleb Shpur '23 Signs Minor League Deal With Detroit Tigers
BEVERLY, Mass. — Former Endicott baseball two-time All-American outfielder Caleb Shpur '23 (East Canaan, Conn.) signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon.
Shpur is now the fourth Gull ever to ink a deal with a Major League Baseball (MLB) organization, joining former teammate Jordan Gottesman '24 as well as alums Matt Bishop '06 and Tad Gold '14.
Shpur, a double major in finance and applied mathematics, has his name woven throughout the Endicott baseball program record books. The outfielder ranks in the top five of numerous career categories, including batting average (.371, second), intentional walks (six, second), slugging percentage (.620, third), home runs (24, tied fourth), stolen bases (67, fourth), and on-base percentage (.458, tied fourth).
After a consensus All-American senior season in 2023, which included Endicott's first-ever trip to the college World Series, Shpur made the decision to transfer to the University of Connecticut, where he spent the final two years of his collegiate career.
With the Huskies, Shpur won the Rawlings Division I Gold Glove in centerfield after posting a national best in defensive runs saved (19.66). Over his two years with the Huskies (2024-25), he slashed .319/.403/.463 slash line (.avg./obp/.slg) with 11 homers and 66 RBI.
In 2025, he slashed .363/.430/.529 in 58 games played (all starts). He ranked seventh in Division I in stolen bases (43), smashed eight homers, and drove in 44 runs while scoring 70 runs.
When asked about Shpur's signing, Endicott baseball head coach Bryan Haley stated, "I couldn't be more excited for Caleb or more proud of him for earning this incredible opportunity with the Tigers organization. He is a tireless worker and a true student of the game. His energy, passion for personal development, and competitive spirit will serve him well as he enters the professional ranks. I'm excited to follow his career in professional baseball, and the entire Endicott Baseball Family is behind Caleb on his new journey."
