No. 18/24 Baseball Rolls Past MIT, 10-2
BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 18/24 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated MIT, 10-2, in Thursday afternoon's non-conference matchup from North Field.
WP (1-3): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
LP (0-1): Dylan Karmin (San Carlos, Calif.) — 0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
After the Engineers struck for an early two-run homer to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, the Gulls took their first lead of the day with a four-run third and never blinked from there.
AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) singled to kick off the big inning, and Finn Adams (Stratham, N.H.) followed up with a four-pitch walk.
A heads-up delayed steal by Hamm on a fake bunt play placed runners on the corners with nobody out, and that allowed for TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) to drive home Hamm with a sac fly to right for Endicott's first run of the evening.
After Liponis' AB, Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) was plunked to load up the bases for Cade Bernardo (Glenmont, N.Y.).
Bernardo wasted little time, and drilled the first pitch he saw into the left field corner to score Adams and John Fusco (Naples, Fla.).
Then, later in the frame, Brenden Walsh (Reading, Mass.) reached on a single, which advanced Bernardo to third. Walsh then stole second base, and a sailed throw down from the Engineers' catcher plated Bernardo for the fourth Endicott run of the inning.
In the fourth inning, the Blue and Green tacked on another three runs to pad their lead. This time, it was Paul Armstrong (Windham, N.H.) who led off with a double to left, creating the rally. He advanced to third on Hamm's groundout, and then came in to score on Adams' grounder to short.
Back-to-back walks of Fusco and Liponis brought Grabowski back to the dish, and he capitalized on the scoring opportunity with a single up the middle to score Fusco from second.
A batter later, Bernardo followed suit with a single to center, sending in Liponis from second.
The Endicott offense tacked on another run in the seventh (Brady Rickenbach (Manchester, N.H.) sac fly) and then snagged another two runs of insurance in the eighth (Grabowski RBI groundout; Liponis scored on a wild pitch).
Leading comfortably from that point, Scully cruised past his early hiccup and delivered a strong five-inning start (exited with a 7-2 lead).
The right-hander was seceded by the foursome of Colby Correia (Fairhaven, Mass.), Jake Harmony (Fairfield, Conn.), Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.), and Ryan Walton (Boylston, Mass.), who each threw one scoreless inning en route to victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls lead the all-time series against the Engineers, 21-6.
- Scully earned his first win since last year's NCAA Regional round (5/17/25; 9-inning complete game win against No. 19/24 Concordia Texas).
- Bernardo finished his afternoon with a 3-for-5 showing, which was his first three-hit game of the season. The Gulls first baseman doubled twice, drove in three runs, and scored twice.
- With his two hit-by-pitches today, Grabowski extended his career total to 67, which is the program record.
- Walton pitched in his second game of the season. The senior right-hander tossed a scoreless inning and fanned two Engineers.
