No. 13/17 Baseball Falls Just Short In Classic Duel To Trinity, 12-11
BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 13/17 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team rallied but came up just short to Trinity, 12-11, in Wednesday evening's non-conference back-and-forth affair from North Field.
WP (4-0): Tyler Fahey (Trinity, Conn.) — 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
LP (0-1): Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.) — 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
After falling behind 8-2 through the first four innings, Endicott erupted for a six-run rally to knot the score in the bottom of the fifth.
Trevor Kamuda (Groveland, Mass.) forced home a run with an RBI walk right before Paul Armstrong (Windham, N.H.) blooped a two-run double down the left field line to make it an 8-5 contest.
Then, TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) strolled to the dish representing the tying run, and he cashed in on the opportunity. The Gulls' captain smashed a game-tying three-run shot over the left field wall to change the trajectory of the ballgame entirely, giving the Gulls new life with the 8-8 score.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, the Gulls took their first lead of the day thanks to John Fusco's (Naples, Fla.) go-ahead RBI single, scoring Cade Bernardo (Glenmont, N.Y.) after his leadoff double.
In the top of the seventh, the Bantams were able to find a run of their own to even things back up, 9-9.
Liponis came through in the clutch again in the bottom of the seventh, as he drilled another go-ahead RBI, this time on a double to right center field to put the Gulls up 10-9.
However, the Bantams reclaimed a 12-10 lead on a three-run shot from second baseman Timmy Domizio (Fairfield, Conn.).
The Gulls closed the gap with an eighth-inning run on another RBI single from Fusco, but the Bantams carried their 12-11 lead into the ninth.
After Jake Harmony (Fairfield, Conn.) escaped a Trinity scoring threat in the top of the ninth, Endicott came up to bat with one final chance.
With two out in the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) singled through the right side, putting the tying run on base for Endicott.
However, the threat ended their, as the Bantams retired Bernardo by a footstep to secure their hard-fought 12-11 road win.
