No. 13/17 Baseball Sweeps Curry, 3-0 and 11-1
BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 13/17 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team swept Curry, 3-0 and 11-1 (7 Inn.), in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) regular season finale from North Field.
GAME ONE: NO. 13/17 ENDICOTT 3, CURRY 0
WP (6-0): Brady Stuart (Hudson, Mass.) — 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
LP (2-6): Henry Marino (Watertown, Conn.) — 4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
SV (2): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
The Gulls put up a quick pair of runs in the bottom of the first thanks to Cade Bernardo's (Glenmont, N.Y.) two-run blast to left center field.
They added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth after TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) drove in Trevor Kamuda (Groveland, Mass.) on an RBI single into left center.
That was all the scoring required, as the tandem of Stuart and Scully completely shut down the Colonels bats.
Stuart turned in a strong five-inning start (3 H, 0 R, 8 K) before handing the ball off to Scully, who picked up a dominant four-inning save (just one batter reached via walk; 6 K).
GAME TWO: NO. 13/17 ENDICOTT 11, CURRY 1 (7 INN.)
WP (6-1): Matt Pappalardo (Pelham, N.H.) — 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
LP (0-2): Seamus Jones (Belmont, Mass.) — 2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
The offense was much more alive for the Gulls in game two.
They put up four runs in both the first and second innings to take an 8-0 lead through two.
In the first, Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) delivered a two-run double, before Brenden Walsh (Reading, Mass.) cycled the bases for a two-run little league inside the park homer (triple and error by the right fielder).
Then, they followed up with another four-run frame in the second after three straight hits from James Benestad (Portsmouth, R.I.) (leadoff double), Kamuda (bunt single), and Paul Armstrong (Windham, N.H.) (RBI single through the left side).
A bases-clearing double from Walsh made it 8-0 Gulls through two full.
Pappalardo picked up right where Scully left off in game one, as he comfortably rolled through the Colonels lineup in his six innings of work.
Needing two runs for the mercy-rule victory in the bottom of the seventh (9-1 lead), an RBI walk from Connor McGee (Bethesda, Md.) and a wild pitch to plate Liponis sealed Endicott's 11-1 seven-inning mercy-rule win.
