Gulls beat Terriers, 4-3

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College ice hockey team defeated Boston University on Saturday, 4-3, in a game held in Hamilton, Mass. at the Pingree School. The Gulls came back from a 2-1 deficit in the second period to defeat the Terriers as Craig Ward (Cohoes, N.Y.) scored the equalizer and Greg Dorman (Merrimack, N.H.) scored the game-winner for the Gulls.
The Terriers took an early lead at the 12:31 mark of the first period on a goal from Brendan Berges off the stick of John Rose. The Gulls answered at the end of the period to knot the game at 1-1 as Mike Vacca (North Reading, Mass.) scored the tying goal. Matthew Zimmerman (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and Christopher Delande (Rowley, Mass.) assisted on the tally.
Boston University regained the lead nearly seven minutes into the second period as Wes Black found Alfredo Areveda to take the 2-1 lead. The Gulls responded quickly and scored two minutes later as Ward connected on a power-play goal to knot the game at two. With five minutes remaining, Dorman was able to net the go-ahead goal off a pass from Nick Colby (Salisbury, Mass.) to take the lead at 3-2.
Gregory Szkop (New Britain, Conn.) would score and insurance goal in the opening minutes of the third period to make the score 4-2. The goal would come in handy as McCrea Dunton scored in the closing seconds of the game for the Terriers to leave the final score at 4-3.
Matt Murray (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the win in net for the Gulls and JJ Ortega took the loss for the Terriers.
Endicott has wrapped up the first portion of its regular season at 9-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the NECHA. The Gulls have gone 4-0-2 in their last six games to close out the fall semester. The Gulls take the ice again on January 23rd when they travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England at 7:30 p.m.
