BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Endicott senior quarterback Drew Frenette (New Bedford, Mass.) has been named NEFC Offensive Player of the Week for his role in a 45-28 Gulls win over Maine Maritime in week five of the 2014 season. Frenette threw for 408 yards on 27 completions with four touchdown passes and zero intereptions.
Frenette completed 71% of his throws including touchdown passes of 15 and 28 yards in the first half to help the Blue and Green gain a 31-21 halftime advantage. With a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Frenette conducted a nine-play, 80-yard drive over 3:12 that resulted in a 15-yard pass to junior tight end Dimitri Skinsacos (Old Orchard Beach, Maine). Another long drive ended on the first play of the second quarter as Frenette hit senior wide out Brett Egizi (Walpole, Mass.) for on a 28-yard route to pay dirt.
The senior signal caller came out hot in the second half with back-to-back drives that resulted in end zone completions as Endicott pushed their 10-point half time lead up to 24 points. After a 46-yard run back on the second half kickoff by junior Anthony Carter (Manchester, Conn.) set the Gulls up on the Maine Maritime 29-yard line, Frenette again found Egizi from five yards to make it a 38-21 game.
A forced fumble turnover on the next Mariner drive gave Endicott the ball on their own 41 and Frenette capped off the scoring for the Gulls with a 36-yard completion to sophomore Jake Pelletier (Trumbull, Conn.) who raced into the end zone to make it 45-21.
Frenette certain benefited from an offensive line that allowed just two sacks on the day and a running game, featuring freshman fullback Lavante Wiggins (Dalton, Mass.) who ran for 132 yards and a touchdown.
Endicott saw two other players recognized on the NEFC weekly honor roll as senior cornerback Jake Cox (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman special teamer and running back Robert Williams (Wayland, Mass.) had a hand in two Maine Maritime turnovers. On the game's opening kickoff, Williams chased down the Maine Maritime returner, forced and recovered a fumble to set the Endicott offense up on the Mariner 23-yard line. The Gulls would go on to score the game's first touchdown on a Pelletier seven-yard rush.
Cox caught up to the Mariners quarterback on a 71-yard run down to the Endicott one-yard line and was able to pop the ball loose into the end zone and out of bounds for a crucial touchback. Endicott ,with a 7-0 lead at that point in the game, drove down the field for Skinsacos' touchdown.
