J. Tirrell And Ferreira Claim CNE Weekly Awards
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott football senior linebacker Joe Tirrell (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman running back Bryan Ferreira (Woburn, Mass.) have been named the Conference of New England's (CNE) Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
JOE TIRRELL, OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tirrell led the way for the Gulls in their 53-14 victory over UNE on Saturday, as the senior linebacker filled the stat sheet with seven tackles (four solo), one sack, three tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, one pass breakup, and a quarterback hurry.
His fumble recovery led to Endicott's first score (1Q, 3:38), while his pass breakup forced a turnover on downs and prevented a touchdown in the red zone to keep the score at 27-0 in the first half.
This is Tirrell's first-ever conference Defensive Player of the Week award.
BRYAN FERREIRA, ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ferreira posted a career day for the Gulls in the 53-14 victory over UNE on Saturday.
The freshman running back compiled a career-high 109 yards on the ground (16 attempts, 6.8 average) and scored twice, tying his career-high in that category.
It marked the second multi-TD game of his career, too.
His first TD opened the scoring in the contest (1Q, 3:38), while his second trip to the end zone made it 41-6 in the third (2:34).
This marks Ferreira's first career CNE Weekly Award.
