Tufts Snaps Gulls Winning Streak

MEDFORD, MA - Freshman Michelle Kelly (Downington, PA) scored three goals to lead the Tufts University field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Endicott College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Jumbos posted a 34-4 advantage in shots and a 21-0 advantage in penalty corners as they snapped the Gulls seven-game win streak. Tufts took a 2-0 lead in the first half when Kelly netted her first goal followed by a rebound goal from Brittany Holiday (Wellesley, MA).
Tufts would then score three goals in a six minute stretch in the second half to out the game out of reach. Kelly scored the first two then Brianna Sullivan (Marblehead, MA) would add her first collegiate goal to make it 5-0 in favor of the Jumbos.
Dana Svendsen (North Andover, MA) also scored her first collegiate goal at 64:33 making it 6-0 and sealing the win for Tufts. Despite the daunting score the Gulls got solid defensive efforts from both Shannon Crotty (Delmar, NY/Bethleham Central) and Jennifer Beech (Devonshire, Bermuda/Saltas Grammar).
NESCAC Player of the Week Marilyn Duffy-Cabana (Amesbury, MA) recorded the shutout for the Jumbos, while Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy) and Chelsea DeFeo (York, ME/York) combined to make 15 saves for the Gulls.
Endicott falls to 12-4 overall with the loss, however EC has already clinched second place in the upcoming CCC Tournament with a 6-1 record in the conference. The Gulls have secured a first round bye but have one regular season game remaining as they host Fitchburg State on Thursday afternoon. That final game will also be senior day for Endicott field hockey.
