Endicott falls 2-1 to #4 WNEC in field hockey quarterfinals

Springfield, Mass. – In The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) field hockey quarterfinal action, the \#5 seed Endicott College gave up an early second half goal to \#4 seed Western New England College in a 2-1 loss. The loss eliminated the Gulls from the TCCC Tournament while WNEC advances to the semifinals.
Springfield, Mass. – In The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) field hockey quarterfinal action, the \#5 seed Endicott College gave up an early second half goal to \#4 seed Western New England College in a 2-1 loss. The loss eliminated the Gulls from the TCCC Tournament while WNEC advances to the semifinals.
The Gulls appeared poised for a strong offensive game after it took the visitor’s exactly four minutes into the first half to score the game’s first goal. Sophomore forward and Second Team All-TCCC selection \#Hannah Thornberg\# (Oakland, Maine) scored her 13th goal of the season with an assist from fellow sophomore \#Taylor Matties\# (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.).
Endicott’s 1-0 was short-lived as the Golden Bears evened the score at 18:52. WNEC freshman forward Jaynie Mueller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) connected a pass to senior forward Kaela Jalbert (Turner, Maine) who beat the Gulls keeper to the back of the cage. For Jalbert, it was her third goal of the season while Mueller earned her fifth assist.
The teams went into halftime with the score 1-1 with the Gulls outshooting the Golden Bears 6-4 in the period. Endicott would go on hold a 14-9 advantage in shots.
Less than five minutes into the start of the second half, WNEC netted the go-ahead and game-winning goal on an unassisted tally by sophomore midfielder Lindsay Lalonde (Middlebury, Vt.). Lalonde’s goal was her fourth of the year and her second game-winning goal of the season.
WNEC goalie sophomore Kaitlyn Hall (Pawtucket, R.I.) was a presence in the cage with 11 saves while earning the playoff victory. Her counterpart, Endicott’s \#Taylor Teixeira\# (Exeter, N.H.) made five saves in the losing effort.
Endicott most likely ends their season with an 11-8 mark while WNEC improves to 10-10.
The Golden Bears now moves on to play \#1 seed New England College on Wednesday, November 3 at 5:00 pm in Henniker, N.H.
