BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team built a 2-0 halftime lead over Plymouth State, but was not able to hold on and fell to Plymouth State by a 4-2 score on Saturday. The Panthers spoiled the Gulls' home opener by scoring three times within ten minutes for the non-conference victory at North Field.
Endicott freshman Emily Sawchuk (Cumblerland, Me.) opened the scoring just 1:16 into the action when she put a bouncing ball into the back of the Plymouth State goal. Junior Hannah Thornberg (Oakland, Me.) doubled the Gulls advantage when she finished a shot far post on the right side of the goal, collecting her third tally of the season. Thornberg's pass came from her classmate Melissa Enright (York Beach, Me.), who picked up her first assist of the season.
The Panthers pushed back and finally broke through just three minutes after halftime on a goal by Cailey Newton (Hebron, N.H.) off of a penalty corner. In the 56th minute, Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, N.H.) drew the visitors level when she pounced on a rebound that deflected off of Endicott goalie Lizetta Solarik's pads.

Plymouth state took the lead for good just four minutes later through a goal by senior Lauren Bergeron (New Hampton, N.H.), and any thoughts of an Endicott comeback were dashed when Gulls' forward Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) was issued a five minute yellow card with just 5:08 remaining in the game. The Panthers, up a man, added another goal by Nikki Garvey (Canaan, N.H.) to complete the comeback victory.
Taylor Texeira (Exeter, N.H.) started in goal allowed just one goal against and made seven stops in the first forty-six minutes of action for the Blue and Green. She made way for the sophomore Solarik (Carmel, N.Y.), who made five stops of her own, but allowed three goals in 24 minutes.
