Field Hockey Completes Comeback To Defeat New Paltz, 3-2
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — The Endicott field hockey team scored three consecutive goals in the second half to pick up a 3-2 road victory over New Paltz at North Turf Field.
As Endicott trailed 1-0 at halftime, New Paltz doubled up their league midway through the third quarter, but Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season about four minutes later after Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) passed it into the middle of the circle and after hitting a Hawks defender fell to Hicks who lifted it over the goalie.
Swanson tied the game with just over one minute remaining in the third after a Hawks turnover allowed Endicott to get out in transition as a Hicks pass found its way into the circle as the New Paltz goalie misplayed it and allowed Swanson to score her second goal of the season.
The Gulls offense continued to push for a winner as they eventually earned a penalty corner with just under six minutes to play. On the corner, Hicks inserted the ball to Abby Antonelli (Worcester, Mass.) as her shot was deflected by a New Paltz defenders stick and found the back of the goal to put Endicott up 3-2.
Endicott's defense then held strong for the rest of the game as they were able to successful defend two New Paltz corners late in the game without giving up a shot.
In goal, Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) made five stops as her record improves to 2-1 on the season.
