Minickene Named NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott field hockey sophomore goalkeeper Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) have been named the National Field Hokcey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday morning.
The sophomore becomes the second student-athlete in program history to earn NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week honors along with Taylor Farrin and joins Sophia Cogliano as the only three student-athletes to earn recognition from the NFHCA.
Minickene was also named Conference of New England (CNE) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her outstanding play as she recorded an undefeated 3-0 record.
Her highlight performance during the week was an 18-save performance in a 2-1 (OT) victory over No. 1 Middlebury, which helped propel the Gulls to their highest national ranking ever at No. 12.
After Endicott tied the game in the fourth quarter, Minickene made two crucial stops and the defense thwarted off three Panther penalty corner opportunities.
Then in overtime, the Madison, Conn. native's 18th save of the contest stopped a breakaway opportunity and allowed the Gulls to regain possession, setting up the opportunity for Tori Swanson's game-winner.
