No. 12 Field Hockey Rolls Trinity (Conn.) On Senior Day, 6-0
BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 12 Endicott field hockey team defeated Trinity (Conn.), 6-0, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action on North Field.
Prior to the game, seniors Abby Antonelli (Worcester, Mass.), Gracie Bolduc (Weare, N.H.), Natalia Correia (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Alexis DeMattia (Methuen, Mass.), Maddy Dengler (Winchester, Mass.), Lily Farnham (Andover, Mass.), Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.), Lily Johnson (Paxton, Mass.), Jordyn Kuharich (Holliston, Mass.), and Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) were all honored for their contributions to the field hockey program and the Endicott community.
Farnham opened the scoring for the Gulls with her sixth goal, which came off a feed from Swanson just over a minute into the contest. Riley Perkins (Lakeville, Mass.) then doubled the Endicott lead with a penalty stroke goal halfway through the first quarter.
Despite outshooting the visitors 5-0 in the second quarter, the Blue and Green were held off the scoreboard until the final 30 seconds when Dengler connected with Hicks for a 3-0 lead heading to halftime.
In the third quarter, Perkins notched another penalty stroke goal, her ninth goal of the season, while Dengler got on the board as Antonelli found the Winchester, Mass. native to push the Gulls' lead to 5-0 going to the fourth quarter.
Dengler and Hicks connected for a second time in the Senior Day triumph with eight minutes to play, as the Gulls secured the shutout victory.
With her two assists in the game, Dengler is now the all-time career leader in assists with 29, passing current assistant coach Kristen McCarthy's '20 M'21 record of 28.
DeMattia got the start in goal and picked up her first win of the season in 15 minutes of action, while Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) stopped three shots over the course of the next 45 minutes.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is now 2-2 all-time versus Trinity (Conn.).
- Second multi-goal game this season for Perkins.
- With her two penalty strokes, Perkins set the program record for Penalty strokes made with nine.
- The 13-game winning streak is the second-longest in program history, behind the 15-game winning streak in 2019.
- 20th career win for DeMattia.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 12 Endicott (13-1) continues non-conference action when it hosts Wellesley on Wednesday, October 15th at 7 PM. Trinity (3-9) resumes conference play when the Bantams welcome Colby to campus on Saturday, October 18 for an 11 AM matchup.
