Endicott Loses First Game In Over A Month
Jan. 15, 2004
The Endicott Gulls suffered their first loss since December 4th, 2003 against conference rival Colby-Sawyer in New London, New Hampshire. It was a tightly contested battle for most of the game except a short-lived ten point lead held by Colby-Sawyer in the second half. Both teams executed stingy defense throughout the game as Endicott shot just over 32% from the field, while the home team managed 31%. Thanks to a timely steal, and clutch foul shooting the home team was able to seize victory.
The Colby-Sawyer Chargers protected a small cushion in the first half but a small flurry by the Gulls made it a 32-30 game at the intermission. In the second half, Chris Condon (13pts, 11rebs) and Andrew St. Clair (14pts, 11rebs) worked diligently in the paint to create some breathing room. Collin Bray (14pts, 4assists), the Chargers' floor leader, left the game due to a collision after making numerous plays to keep his team ahead in the first half and the Gulls' press and stubborn zone helped the Gulls to make up the deficit in the second half.
With the game tied, Endicott sharpshooter, Jeremy Currier went to the line and hit one of two free throws, giving the Gulls the lead. Shortly thereafter, the Chargers attempted a shot that would have given them the lead and Endicott's Matt George came up with a crucial rebound with only 13 seconds on the clock. Unrelenting, the Chargers managed a steal and Condon was fouled attempting to score. Condon hit the game clinching free throws and the Gulls were unable to convert on two opportunities down the stretch, losing 56-54. Endicott competes next on Tuesday at 8pm against "down the street" rival Gordon College at Gordon's gym.
