The competitive men's basketball rivalry between the Gulls and Fighting Scots has only gotten stronger in recent years. The last four meetings between the two teams have been decided by a combined 15 points, with each team stealing respective one point victories during the stretch. Endicott stunned the Fighting Scots on February 13, 2007 with an improbable four-point play with less than a second left in regulation in a 62-61 win. Gordon responded with a 56-55 win on February 2, 2008 as Jon Marstaller knocked down a three-pointer off an inbounds play with four seconds left to steal a win for the Fighting Scots.
Endicott will enter Thursday's non-conference showdown with a 4-2 overall record. The Gulls are coming off their Western Connecticut State University Holiday Tournament Championship performance as they strung together a pair of wins over Medgar Evers and the host Colonials. Gordon College will tout its 5-0 record that features impressive wins over MIT, Oneonta State, Husson and William Patterson. The Fighting Scots received 40 votes in the d3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, putting them at 27th nationally.
The Blue and Green will look to get reigning TCCC and ECAC Player of the Week Graham Whitelaw (Kennebunk, Maine) into the scoring action early. Whitelaw, who averaged 20.3 points per game and shot a blistering 61.5% (24-of-39) from the field last week, has been the Gulls main source of offense through six games.
The Fighting Scots will look to counter offensively with Aaron Trigg (Overland Park, Kans.), who has already scored 101 points in five games for Gordon. Trigg has averaged 37 minutes a night and has a team-leading 13 three-pointers. The junior guard has also shown that he can distribute the ball, as he has dished out 27 assists (5.4 per game) for the Scots.
