Men's golf places 27th at NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. - Teams from 44 colleges and universities across New England gathered Sunday through Tuesday, October 19-21, 2008 for the 74th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship. The event attracted 215 golfers to The Captains Golf Course and its 36-hole layout on Cape Cod.
The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes 46 member colleges and universities in New England and is considered to be the oldest and largest college golf tournament. It is unique in that Divisions I, II and III compete together.
Four individuals tied for the overall lead with a two-day total of 147. A birdie by Sacred Heart University senior Matt Belizze on the first playoff hole garnered him the medalist title. The others who tied at 147 were Sacred Heart teammate Patrick Fillian who was tied for the lead after Day 1, senior Anthony Gallardo from UMass Lowell and sophomore Alex Daley of Bryant University.
Division I Bryant University, under the leadership of Coach Archie Boulet, won the tournament with a two-day score of 604. Post University led all Division II schools with a total of 632 and Nichols College led the Division III teams with a total of 617.
The Endicott College men's golf team was able to finish in 27th place out of the 44 team field. The Gulls posted a team score of 663 which was +87 for the tournament. Peter Weatherby (Portsmouth, R.I.) finished tied for 35th as he shot a second round 75 for a two round score of 157. Drew Sullivan (Katonah, N.Y.) and Andrew LaRocque (Averill Park, N.Y.) finished with scores of 167 and 169 respectively. Endicott's Daniel Ryan (Plymouth, Mass.) and Garett Seney (Bow, N.H.) rounded out the field for the Gulls as they finished tied for 148th and 179th respectively.
The Blue and Green golf team returns to the links on Thursday when they host the TCCC Championships held at the Essex County Club in Manchester, Mass. The tournament starts at 10:00 a.m.
