BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott men's golf program gets the 2021-22 season underway on Saturday as they kick off the two-day Duke Nelson Invitational at the Ralph Myhre Golf Club. Here's a preview of the upcoming season.
FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Gulls will be a very experienced squad in 2021-22, returning two seniors, five juniors and three sophomores to a team that finished as the runner-up in last year's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship.
- Leading the way will be Nicholas Grimbilas (Strafford, N.H.), Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) and Kyle Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.). The trio earned All-CCC recognition in 2020-21, as Grimbilas was named CCC Golfer of the Year and All-CCC First Team, while Frank Mahoney was named CCC Rookie of the Year and to the First Team, and Kyle was named All-CCC Second Team.
- At the helm of the program and entering his 11th year is head coach Tom Smith. Smith has been named CCC Coach of the Year on five separate occasions during his tenure and has guided the Gulls to three NCAA DIII Tournament appearances.
- Endicott has either won the CCC title or finished as the runner-up every year dating back to the 2008-09 season when they finished third.
- Today's tournament in Vermont kicks off the road tour of New England in the fall that sees the Gulls travel to Maine for two of their next three tournaments before returning home to Massachusetts for the prestigious NEIGA Championship Oct. 16-18 in Brewster, Mass. to close out the fall season.
