Bowdoin Edges Men’s Lacrosse In Overtime, 8-7

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin freshman attack Will Murtagh (Marblehead, Mass.) scored with 1:12 to play in overtime to lift the Polar Bears past Endicott, 8-7, on Wednesday night at Whittier Field.

Trailing 7-6 with under two minutes to play in the contest, the Gulls forced overtime behind Jack Sutherland's (Sudbury, Mass.) game-tying goal at the 1:27 mark of the fourth off an assist from John Koebel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.).

Meanwhile, in overtime, both teams had one scoring chance each before Murtagh buried the game-winner.

Sutherland paced Endicott's offense with a hat-trick, while A.J. MacDonald (New Fairfield, Conn.), Neal Parry (Marshfield, Mass.), Derek Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.), and Sam Abate (Beverly, Mass.) all found the back of the net once in the loss.

  • Bowdoin snapped a two-game losing skid with tonight's win.
  • Yannone went 9-for-18 at the faceoff X and scooped up eight ground balls. He has now lost a faceoff matchup so far this season (8-0).
  • Cam Goodrich (Raynham, Mass.) notched a season-high three caused turnovers to aid the Gulls in tying their season-high for caused turnovers (11).
  • James Loughran (Cos Cobb, Conn.), Hayden Souza (West Hartford, Conn.) and Andrew Soucy (Andover, Mass.) also aided the defense with two caused turnovers apiece.

Endicott (2-6) travels to crosstown rival Gordon College on Saturday, March 30 at 3 PM. Bowdoin (5-3) visits Trinity (Conn.) this Saturday at 1 PM.
