Tyksinski's Career-High Six Goals Powers Men's Lacrosse Past Springfield, 17-9
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's lacrosse team used a strong second half to overpower Springfield, 19-7, on Friday night at Hempstead Stadium.
Tommy Tyksinski (Guilderland, N.Y.) highlighted the offensive output with a career-high six goals.
Nick Graap (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished with a hat-trick, while Adam Priest (Billerica, Mass.) and Joseph Tumolo (Mahopac, N.Y.) both found the back of the net twice.
Campbell Allardi (Andover, Mass.), Shane Dean (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), Chris Hughes (North Kingstown, R.I.), and Manny Marshall (Chelmsford, Mass.) all tallied solo goals.
In goal, Gio Panicola (Long Beach, N.Y.) finished with a career-high 13 saves as his record improves to 4-0 this season. Travis Foster (Wells, Maine) also went 16-27 at the face-off "X" with six ground balls.
Endicott started the game on a 3-0 run with goals by Graap (x2) and Tyksinski. Springfield then responded with five of the next six in the contest to take a 5-4 lead heading to the second quarter.
Another goal by the Pride was responded to by Priest at 12:59 of the second. A man-up goal just over a minute later regained the two-goal lead for the visitors.
From the 11:48 mark of the second quarter, the Blue and Green outscored Springfield, 3-0, to take an 8-7 lead heading to the halftime break. Tyksinski got the run started with back-to-back goals at 8:03 and 1:07 marks before Tumolo regained the lead with 12 seconds before halftime.
The Endicott defense allowed just six shots over that stretch while forcing two turnovers, and Panicola made two saves.
Coming out of halftime, neither team scored for the first nine minutes and 12 seconds until Allardi picked off a Springfield pass and ran the length of the field to bury his first goal of the season. Priest pushed the lead to three just 48 seconds afterwards.
After a penalty following the goal, Endicott's man-down defense forced a Springfield turnover to gain the momentum. The Gulls continued to find the back of the net as they went on a 3-1 run (Tyksinski x2 and Dean) the rest of the quarter to take a 13-8 lead to the fourth.
In the third quarter, the Gulls finished with more ground balls (10-5), forced Springfield into nine turnovers, and held them to 0-2 on the man-up.
The fourth quarter saw the hosts continue the goal scoring with a 4-1 output as Tyksinski, Graap, Hughes, and Marshall all notched goals.
