    BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College men's tennis team will have a new head coach when it begins play this spring. Todd Herrmann recently accepted the head coaching position at EC. Herrmann replaces Mark Herlihy, who stepped down in June after accepting an academic administration position at the College.

    "I've coached tennis for 28 years and I wanted to develop a team competitively since I usually only work with individuals," Herrmann said. "My immediate goal here is to have a team with a winning record in the first season. With the team that we have - the team Mark Herlihy put together - that goal is very reasonable."

    Herrmann brings a vast knowledge of the game to Endicott. He has been teaching tennis for 28 years and coaching young adults for 20 years. Herrmann has served as the head tennis pro at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead since 2000. He also was the tennis pro at Bass River Tennis Club during the winter of 2003-2004.

    As tennis pro, Herrmann taught both group and private lessons for all ages and skill levels. Herrmann also coached a women's team at Bass River. He created junior and adult development programs and coached seven collegiate level tennis players.

    A graduate of Bowdoin College, Herrmann earned certifications in coaching at the junior, professional and international levels at Van Der Meer Tennis University and the Professional Tennis Registry, both located in Hilton Head, SC.

    Herrmann's experience goes beyond coaching. Twice (1990 and 1992) he earned number one rankings for men's and mixed doubles in the state of Maine. Herrmann also played at the USTA League National Championships at three different levels.

    Herrmann takes over a tennis program that is rapidly climbing the ranks in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. In 2006, the Gulls posted a program-record for wins and return seven players, including CCC Rookie of the Year Joshua Schoen '09 (Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia). With Herrmann's direction and experience, EC should continue its rise to the top of the CCC rankings.
