Gulls Claim Pivotal 5-4 Road Decision Over Eastern Nazarene in CCC Play

QUINCY, Mass.- Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, the Endicott men's tennis team would claim four of six singles matches to grab a 5-4 decision on the road against Eastern Nazarene. With the win, the Gulls improve to 8-6 on the season overall, and 4-2 in CCC play with two regular season matches left before the CCC Tournament begins on Tuesday, April 28. Endicott returns home for their final two contests as they welcome Salve Regina and Gordon to town on the 22nd and 25th.

With the win, the Gulls improve to 8-6 on the season overall, and 4-2 in CCC play with two regular season matches left before the CCC Tournament begins on Tuesday, April 28. Endicott returns home for their final two contests as they welcome Salve Regina and Gordon to town on Tuesday and Saturday, respectively.

The Gulls would earn their first point of the day at #1 doubles as Chris Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) and Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) scored an 8-3 victory over their Eastern Nazarene counterparts Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia). The Lions would post an 8-4 victory at #3 doubles as Mike Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) and Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) fell to Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) by an 8-4 score. The tightest doubles match came at #2 as Endicott's duo of Eric Pierce (Barrington, R.I.) and Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) fell in a tie-breaker 9-8 (8-6) to Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.).

Needing to claim at least four singles matches for the victory, Endicott would receive wins at #1 from Kirkpatrick 6-1, 6-3 over Tolmachev, #3 as Dolph won 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 over Son and at #5 as McAndrews defeated Steelman 6-2, 6-0 before freshman Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) would lock up the 5-4 victory with a 6-4, 6-1 at #6 singles over Perron. Pierce and Lauretano would also play well at #2 and #4 respectively, both battling to third set losses, Lauretano in a 10-7 tiebreak.

With the win, the Gulls improve to 8-6 on the season overall, and 4-2 in CCC play while Eastern Nazarene falls to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in CCC play. Endicott hosts Salve Regina tomorrow in a CCC matchup while Eastern Nazarene travels to Curry. The Gulls will then play host to cross-town rival Gordon on Saturday while Eastern Nazarene hosts Salve Regina as both teams wrap up regular season play with the CCC Tournament slated to start next Tuesday.
