Men's Tennis Handles Gordon In Resumed Match, 7-0
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott College men's tennis team defeated Gordon College, 7-0, in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup Friday evening at the South Campus Tennis Courts.
The Gulls earned the come from behind victory in doubles No. 2 after resuming play from last Wednesday. Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) / Drew Benporath (South Guildford, Western Australia)
came from behind after trailing 6-5 to win 7-6 including the deciding tiebreak 8-6 to claim the doubles point.
Spencer Smith (Albany, N.Y.) / Eric Scalici (Essex Fells, N.J.) were also victorious at doubles No. 3 (6-4).
The Gulls continued their dominance in singles play as Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6. Then Smith followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
Marsallo followed with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 4, while Benporath followed suite at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4.
Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) put the Gulls up 6-0 in the match as the senior caputed another win 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1.
Scalici secured the sweep by fighting from behind and clinching a tiebreaker victory (2-6, 6-3, 10-7).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Benporath remains unbeaten in CNE Singles Action (6-0).
- Marsallo won his fourth consecutive match at singles No. 4.
- Endicott remains unbeaten at home in CNE action
WHATS NEXT
Endicott (8-7, 6-1 CNE) will travel to Saint Joesph (Conn.) for another pivotal CNE matchup Saturday April 11th at 12 PM. Gordon College (8-8, 5-3 CNE) will host Wentworth, Saturday April 11 at 11 AM for a CNE matchup.
