Men's Volleyball Sweeps No. 13 Wentworth, 3-0
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's volleyball team defeated No. 13 nationally ranked Wentworth, 3-0, by scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-18 on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) led the way offensively with 12 kills (.381) along with four digs.
Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) stuffed the stat sheet as the senior finished with 11 putaways, one assist, one service ace, two digs, and a team-high five block assists.
In addition, Aaron Bennett (Haverhill, Mass.) chipped in eight kills to go with five digs, three block assists, and one service ace.
Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) facilitated the offense via 30 assists on 63 total attempts (.476). The junior also added nine digs and a solo block.
At the net, Jackson Gray (Glenmont, N.Y.) recorded two kills, one solo block, and four block assists. On the backline, Dan Battista (Bethlehem, N.Y.) produced a match-high nine digs.
Today's match featured 25 ties (9-8-8) and five lead changes (3-1-1).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is now 25-16 all-time versus Wentworth (first win since 2/6/2020).
- Highest-ranked victory since 2/4/2022 (vs No. 4 NYU).
- First time beating three nationally ranked teams in a season since 2020.
- The Gulls finish the regular season undefeated at home (9-0).
- Season/career-high block assists for Laborde.
- The Brookline, N.H. native also went over 200 career kills in the victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (20-3) now enters the NEVC Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed. They will host the semifinals next Saturday, April 11, with the opponent and time still to be determined. No. 13 Wentworth (17-9) will be the No. 2 seed in the GNAC Tournament and will host the semifinal on Thursday, April 9, with the opponent and time also still to be determined.
