WEHNAM, Mass. – The Endicott men's cross-country team finished in fifth place out of eight teams on Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, hosted by Gordon College.
The University of New England secured its first-ever conference championship with a score of 31 points, while Roger Williams (72) earned runner-up honors. Both teams were then followed by Wentworth (81), Nichols (86), Endicott (108), Gordon 9155), Salve Regina (170), and Western New England (171).
For Endicott, junior Joshua Knight (Oxted, England) led the Gulls with a sixth place finish completing the eight-kilometer course in 27:33.0. Knight's performance earned him CCC All-Conference honors. Meanwhile, Marcus Poccia (West Greenwich, R.I.) crossed the finish line next for Endicott in 18th place (28:24.9).
Not far behind Poccia was Adam Germaine (Guilford, Conn.) who ran 28:38.3 to take 20th place. Jack McGuire (Hopkinton, Mass.) was next at 29:09.0 for 28th place, and, finally, Zachary Heffernan (Biddeford, Maine) rounded out the top-five in 36th with a time of 29:55.0.
"Despite ending up fifth overall, we had our top-6 all run big PR's [personal records]," said Endicott men's cross country head coach Spencer Lange. "They ran their best race of the season so far, on the day it mattered, so I am very happy with their performances. This is a tough team and they are ready for their next challenge in two weeks! Without any seniors on the roster, we are excited for the growth of this young team."
