NORTON, MA - The Endicott College softball team had its 14 game win streak snapped at the hands of the Wheaton College Lyons as they handed EC a pair of losses, 8-0 and 10-2 in a non-conference double-header on Saturday afternoon.
The Gulls were only able to manage two hits in game one with Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) leading the game off with a single and Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill) lining a single through the left side of the infield in the fourth inning.
The Game was scoreless until the third when Wheaton got on the board with one run, opening the flood gates as the Lyons followed up with a five run fourth inning and a two run sixth that ended the game.
Jackie Collier (Swampscott, MA/Bishop Fenwick) was tagged with her first loss of the season as she went four and two thirds innings giving up seven runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out one.
The Gulls did not fair much better in game two as the Lyons jumped out to a seven run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Maria Mangine (Lockport, NY/Lockport) who has been on fire at the plate as of late ran into a tough Wheaton lineup that handed her a second loss on the season.
Mangine lasted just one inning, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits while walking two. Jenn Elwell (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen Tech) came in to pitch the final three innings of the shortened game, allowing one unearned run while walking one and striking out one.
Endicott's hitters managed to scrape together a pair of runs in the fifth. Jenna Lazar (Milton, MA/Milton) led the inning off getting hit by a pitch, Danielle Sargent followed up with a single bringing up an RBI ground rule double from Meghan Sargent (Sailsbury, MA/Triton). Casey Shanley (Billerica, MA/Billerica) then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Sargent.
With the losses the Gulls drop to 21-7 overall but remain 14-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. EC will try to get back on the winning track Sunday as they head to the Wentworth Institute of Technology for a CCC double-header starting at noon.
