Gulls win ninth straight with pair of victories

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Endicott College softball team continued its run through conference opponents as the Gulls downed New England College in a TCCC double-header on Saturday afternoon, 14-3 and 8-1. With the two wins the Gulls extend their winning streak to nine games improving to 26-4 overall and 17-1 in conference play. The losses drop the Pilgrims to 8-20 on the season and 2-11 in the conference.
In game one, the Gulls would pound out 13 hits and plate 14 runs cruising past the Pilgrims 14-3 in six innings. The Endicott offense would score in every inning but the fourth, including opening the game with a three-run first inning and tacking on four runs in the sixth inning. The Pilgrims would finish the game with seven hits and leave six runners on base.
Leading the way for the Gulls was Merry MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.) who hit two homeruns in game one and finished with three RBI and two runs scored. Endicott's Hayley Hovhanessian (Farmington, Conn.) was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a homerun and three runs scored. Picking up the win on the mound for Endicott was Jenna Bortolotti (Milton, Mass.) who allowed three earned runs and struck out five in six innings of work.
NEC's Stephanie Freitag (Lakeville, Mass.) hit a solo homerun in the first inning and recorded a single. Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) singled in the other Pilgrim run.
In game two Endicott would plate two runs in the first and three in the second jumping out to the early 5-0 lead. The two teams would battle through the third and the fourth inning scoreless before the Gulls would tack on an unearned run in the fifth to go up 6-0. Endicott would open the seventh with back-to back singles by Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, Mass.) and Hovhanessian who would each come around to score putting the Gulls up 8-0.
The Pilgrims would get on the board in the seventh as Sierra Thibeault (Brunswick, Maine) would open the inning with a double off the fence and eventually score on a Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) double.
Leading the way for the Gulls at the plate in game two was Jill Wiseman (Holden, Mass.) who singled twice. Endicott's Meghan Sargent singled and scored two runs for the Gulls. Picking up the win on the mound was Jackie Collier (Swampscott, Mass.) who allowed one earned run on five hits in seven innings of work.
Leading the way for NEC was Sierra Thibeault who finished with two hits.
The Blue and Green return to action on Sunday when they travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Wentworth in a TCCC double-header scheduled for 1:00 p.m. New England College will host Anna Maria College on Sunday in a double-header at 1:00 p.m. as well.
