Mattie Brett chosen as TCCC Player and Rookie of the Week
TCCC Athletes of the Week
Springfield, Mass. - Endicott freshman shortstop Mattie Brett (Waterford, Conn.) won both the Player and Rookie of the Week honors from the TCCC by leading the softball team to a 5-1 week.
Endicott (13-5, 7-1 TCCC) benefited from Brett's .500 (9-for-18) batting average this week which included three doubles and two homeruns. One of her homeruns came in a crucial spot in game one against Nichols on Sunday with the Gulls down 11-10 in the fifth inning. Brett knocked a two-out three-run blast over the centerfield wall to lift Endicott to a 13-12 triumph over the Bison.
Bret finished the doubleheader against the Bison 6-for-6 with six RBI and five runs scored.
Brett tallied seven RBI, crossed the plate four times and stole two bases on the week. She hit her first collegiate homerun in a 10-0, five-inning win over Anna Maria early in the week.
The freshman is now batting .391 with 17 runs scored, 11 RBI, four walks, and four stolen bases.
Brett and the Gulls are scheduled, weather pending, to play TCCC rival the University of New England on Tuesday, April 5th at home. The games are scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
