KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Endicott softball team is competing on day two of the Rebel Spring Games down in Florida. One day one, the Gulls were victorious 5-3 over Mount St. Joseph before the torrential rainfall halted play in the sixth inning. Game two versus Montclair State was cancelled.
Game One: Endicott 6, Utica 0
Box Score
Sophomore hurler Danielle LaRocque (Averill Park, N.Y.) went seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out three to lead Endicott to a 6-0 win over their Empire 8 opponent Utica.
LaRocque ran into trouble just once in the game, loading the bases with one down in the top of the third inning before getting two straight batters to fly out to right field to escape the jam. LaRocque set down her opposition 1-2-3 in four of her seven innings pitched.
Endicott got RBI singles from Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.) in the third and Alli Noyes (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the fifth innings. Michael’s RBI came on a bunt single that scored Nicole Devlin (Dudley, Mass.) from third base but the sophomore was gunned out trying to advance to second. Noyes suffered a similar fate, getting an infield single to third base that plated Jess Linden (Stratford, Conn.) but Noyes was caught between first and second for the inning’s final out. Devlin, who was on second base to start the play, also scored to make it 6-0.
The Gulls were able to draw eight walks off Utica pitchers Haley Butler (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Briona Enny (Queensbury, N.Y.) which worked to their benefit especially in the first inning as two runs scored off bases loaded walks. There were five free passes issued in that inning alone.
Endicott takes on Springfield at 5:00 pm tonight.
