Endicott loses 6-1 to Transylvania, 4-0 to Spring to end Rebel Games week

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Endicott softball team will look to end their spring training trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Florida with a winning record as they enter the final day of competition. Endicott takes on Transylvania at 9:00 am before taking on Springfield for the second time at 11:00 am.
Game One: Endicott 1, Transylvania 6

Transylvania scored in every inning but the second and seventh and two Pioneer pitchers combined to allow just one earned run on three Endicott hits and a walk as the Gulls lost 6-1 on their final day at the Rebel Spring Games.
Freshman Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with an RBI single to left field that drove in Nicole Devlin (Dudley, Mass.) to lead Endicott in the first of two games on Thursday morning.
The only other hits for Endicott in this game were by Devlin, a single in the second to get on base for Michael, and Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.) who doubled in the third, her fourth two-bagger of the season.
Junior pitcher Kayla Carignan (Laconia, N.H.) took the loss after going 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with no strikeouts. Nell O’Connor (Harwich, Mass.) pitched four solid innings by giving up just two runs on four hits without a walk or a strikeout.
Game Two: Endicott vs Springfield, 11:00 am

In their final game of the week, the Gulls looked to complete a sweep over Springfield but the Pride got nine strikeouts out of their pitcher, Jennifer Joseph (Stamford, Conn.), and managed just two hits in a 4-0 loss.
Gulls captain Byrne Katz (Trumbull, Conn.) got both of Endicott’s hits as she went 2-for-3 with singles in the fifth and seventh innings. Her base hit to left in the fifth would set up Endicott’s one major scoring opportunity as the Gulls got runners on second and third with just one out, but Joseph fanned the final two batters to escape the jam.
Endicott freshman pitcher Cam Sprague gave up four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings in the circle. She fanned three Pride hitters. Sprague finished the week 1-2 with a 4.30 ERA, nine strikeouts, and one walk in 14 2/3 innings pitched.
