Gulls softball splits with Western New England; CCC Tourney looms

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott softball split a pair of games with CCC foe Western New England on Wednesday to wrap up their regular season. The Gulls are 20-15-1 (14-4 CCC) and now look forward to the start of double elminiation play of CCC Tournament on Monday, April 30th.
Game One: Endicott 6, Western New England 1

Sophomores Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) and Alexandra Moise (North Reading, Mass.) both recorded their second career homeruns to lead the Gulls to a 6-1 win over the Golden Bears in game one.
Bilafer helped Endicott to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third as her two-run shot to centerfield brought home freshman Jess Linden (Stratford, Conn.) who had reached on an infield single to leadoff the inning. Two frames later, Moise blasted a Western New England offering to right to score junior Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.).
Both players finished 2-for-3 in the game. Bilafer added a second run scored in the top of the first after reaching on a bunt single then scoring on Kelley Michael’s (Ipswich, Mass.) double to right center for her team-leading 22nd RBI of the season.
In the circle for the Gulls was Nell O’Connor (Harwich, Mass.) who continued her strong sophomore campaign with her seventh complete game of the season to improve to 8-3. She allowed just one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out four.
Catcher Krista Fales (Melrose, Mass.) added an RBI single up the middle in the fourth inning, her 15th of the year.
Western New England managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Christina Speroni (Cumberland, R.I.) that brought home Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, Mass.) who had doubled to leadoff the inning.

The Blue and Green fell just short in capturing the top seed in the CCC Tournament as their 3-2 loss guaranteed the Gulls only a home game on Monday afternoon to start the double elminiation portion of the conference tournament.
Down 3-2, Endicott got the game-tying run to third base in the top of the sixth but the Golden Bears pulled off a double play to escape the jam. The Gulls went 1-2-3 in their last at bats to take the loss.
Endicott junior Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) delivered both of the team’s runs in the fourth on a two-run blast to right, her team-leading fifth homer of the season.
The Golden Bears got RBI hits out of Wywra, Sara Barnes (Berkley, Mass.), and Jocelyn Agnelli (Winchendon, Mass.) to lead the Western New England offense.
On the mound, O’Connor came up all three runs before freshman Cam Sprague (Clifton Park, N.Y.) shutdown the opposition over the final four innings with four punch outs.
Western New England hurler Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, Conn.) went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk. She struck out two batters in her eighth win of the season.
