Gulls Drop Game One, and Rain Stops Game Two
CLERMONT, Fla. – Day two got underway for the Endicott softball team down in Florida for the Dot Richardson Spring Games. This morning the Gulls (2-1) faced a tough Allegheny (2-6) squad that gave the Blue and Green their first loss of the season in the 7-3 decision. In game two by the fourth inning the rain was too much to handle as the umpires called the game. Before the game was called the Gulls were in the lead led by freshman Rachel Couto who did hit two home runs.

This morning the Gulls (2-1) faced a tough Allegheny (2-6) squad that gave the Blue and Green their first loss of the season in the 7-3 decision. In game two by the fourth inning the rain was too much to handle as the umpires called the game. Before the game was called the Gulls were in the lead led by freshman Rachel Couto who did hit two home runs.
To start off the morning with senior Alex Moise (North Reading, Mass.) on base freshman Julia McNeill (Hauppauge, N.Y.) singled to center field to bring Moise home to take the early 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning senior Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) earned her first double of the season as she crushed the ball out to centerfield. The 2013 leader in RBI's, sophomore Sam DiBella (Danvers, Mass.) stepped up to the plate and singled down the left field line to bring Bilafer home from second base to make it a 2-0 score.
In the third inning Allegheny was able to make it a one run game on a fielding error by the Blue and Green. With junior Meg Donegan (Atkinson, N.H.) in the circle she followed the tough run with a pair of strikeouts. However the Gators Sadie Stuart (Jamestown, N.Y.) doubled to right field to bring her teammate Shannen Segiel (North Huntingdon, Pa.) home for the tying run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Gators took the lead but Endicott quickly answered back in the top of the fifth as Moise singled down the right field line which brought freshman Chanler Hospot (Pittsfield, Mass.) to home plate to make it a 3-3 game.
The Hospot run marked the last for the Gulls as the sixth inning posed a struggle for the Blue and Green as they let up three runs to give the Gators the 7-3 victory. Despite the loss Donegan worked hard in the circle claiming four strikeouts.
Endicott was set to face Plymouth State at 1:00 p.m. but with heavy rain the game was cancelled in the fourth inning. The Gulls were in the lead at the time with huge efforts from Couto with two homeruns but with the cancelation, the game does not count and will not be rescheduled.
Tomorrow the squad will pick back up as they are set to play a pair of night games at 5/7 PM against St. Norbert and Scranton at the National Training Center.
