Softball Swept On Final Day In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Endicott softball team lost to No. 18 Wisconsin-Whitewater (12-7) and Framingham State (5-0) on Friday afternoon at Legends Way (Field 3). 

GAME ONE: NO. 18 WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER 12, ENDICOTT 7

WP (3-0): Madi DeBennett (Wadsworth, Ill.) — 4.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
LP (2-2): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 2+ IP, 6 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

After Whitewater posted a four-run first inning, the Gulls responded with a quick two-spot in the bottom half of the first.

Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) stayed hot with a single to right field that scored Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) all the way from first. Romero came around to score off a Paige Berdos' (Plainville, Mass.) RBI double to left later in the frame.

The Warhawks tacked on another run in the second to take a 5-2 lead, but the Gulls knotted things up with a big rally in the bottom half.

Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.) kickstarted the rally with a hard-hit double into the right center field gap, and scored just two batters later, as Caroline Cummings (Trumbull, Conn.) blooped an RBI double down the left field line.  

Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) capped things off in the inning with an RBI single into right, scoring Cummings from second. Saccoccio later got herself into a rundown between first and second, which enabled Nowicki to trot home from third.

Unfortunately for the Gulls, the No. 18 Warhawks' offense was too overpowering, and they eventually pulled ahead 12-5.

The Blue and Green were able to scrap together two more runs (one in the sixth, one in the seventh) after RBI singles from Lear and Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.), but their fight ended there, and they fell by a 12-7 score.

GAME TWO: FRAMINGHAM STATE 5, ENDICOTT 0

WP (4-0): Audrey Gauthier (Dexter Mich.) — 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 13 K
LP (2-1): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Framingham State broke open the pitchers' duel in the fifth inning with an RBI single to right field (unearned) before busting the contest open in the sixth with a four-run frame, three of which were also unearned.

Gauthier finished the matchup with a career-high 13 strikeouts to win her third consecutive start.

Her previous two starts included victories over Middlebury and Wisconsin-River Falls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

• Endicott is 0-4 all-time against Wisconsin-Whitewater and 7-2 versus Framingham State (four-game winning streak snapped).
• Cummings went 3-for-4 with one run scored, one extra-base hit (double), and an RBI on the day.
• Saccocio also collected three hits on the afternoon (3-7, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI).
• In game two of the doubleheader, Nowicki made two spectacular catches — including an extra-base hit saving catch in the left center gap in the fourth and a two-run diving snag coming in from center field in the fifth.
