BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split its conference doubleheader against Nichols (8-0, 4-7) on Saturday evening at the Softball Complex.
Prior to game one, Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.), Riley Gamache (Litchfield, N.H.), Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.), Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.), and Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) were all honored for their contributions to the program and the Endicott College community in a Senior Day ceremony.
GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Nichols 0 (6 inn.)
WP (4-4): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 3 K
LP (14-4): Chelsea Indyk (Easthampton, Mass.) — 5.1 IP, 3 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
Berdos (sac fly) and Romero (RBI walk) opened the scoring in the first, and the Gulls took off from there.
Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) also belted a two-run homer in the third before Endicott completed the mercy-rule victory with a four-run sixth inning.
Shapleigh highlighted the final frame with a two-run walk-off double down the right field line.
GAME TWO: Nichols 7, Endicott 4
WP (15-4): Chelsea Indyk (Easthampton, Mass.) — 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
LP (0-2): Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.) — 3.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
The Gulls were opportunistic in game two, but ultimately came up short of securing the comeback sweep.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) ripped a game-tying two-out RBI single up the middle following a fielding error, which extended the frame.
More of the same happened in the fifth as Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) launched a game-tying three-run homer directly after another two-out fielding error by the Bison.
Nichols bounced back, however, with a three-run seventh to earn the split.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- McClaflin and Saccoccio each homered for the third time in an Endicott uniform today.
- Couto improved to 46-19 overall in her career (needs one win to rank third all-time).
- Endicott is 48-5 all-time against Nichols (25-3 at home).
