KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Endicott softball team split a doubleheader against Alverno (12-7) and Ramapo (3-4) on Monday afternoon at Fortune Road Athletic Complex.
GAME ONE: ENDICOTT 12, ALVERNO 7
WP (1-0): Alexa Gillis (Goffstown, N.H.) — 4.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
LP (0-4): Bailey Gardener (Eagle Lake First Nation, Ontario) — 6.0 IP, 15 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
SV (1): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
After trailing 1-0 in the second inning, the Gulls erupted for six runs to grab a firm lead in the contest.
Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.) sparked the rally with an RBI double to left center, bringing home Kyla Story (Salisbury, Mass.) to even the score at 1-1. Soon after, Caroline Cummings (Trumbull, Conn.) delivered a base hit that scored McLaren and gave the Gulls the lead.
The Blue and Green kept the momentum rolling with back-to-back bombs from Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) and Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.), extending their advantage to 6-1 in the bottom of the second.
Next inning, Mitchell stayed hot, driving in two more runs with a single that brought home Jeanise Serrano (Shelton, Mass.) and Vania Moniz (Salem, N.H.) to give Endicott a five run lead.
Alverno answered with four runs to cut the deficit to one heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Gulls quickly responded with four runs to extend the lead to 12-7, and never faltered from that point.
GAME TWO: RAMAPO 4, ENDICOTT 3
WP (2-0): Brooke Knight (Toms River, NJ.) — 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
LP (0-2): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 6.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 4 K
The Gulls controlled most of the game but couldn't maintain their lead in the final inning after a prolonged weather delay.
McClaflin, Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.), and Story highlighted the offense, each driving in a run for the Gulls.
Gillis registered two hits, while McClaflin, Tower, Story, and Catherine Seay (Marlborough, Mass.) added one each.
Endicott struck first as Tower delivered an RBI to bring McClaflin home. Later that inning, Story singled up the middle to drive in Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.), giving the Gulls a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
In the second inning, the Blue and Green tacked on another run after Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.) reached on a leadoff hit-by-pitch. McClaffin followed with a single to center field to drive home Beeley.
The lead unraveled in the bottom of the seventh, and Ramapo rallied to earn the walkoff 4-3 win.
